Spring 2018
Mike McFarlin joins the lab this semester. Abram presents his research on mercury and red-legged kittiwakes at the Alaska Marine Science Symposium in Anchorage. Abram and Olivia travel to lovely La Paz, Mexico to present their research at the Pacific Seabird Group annual meeting. Congratulations to Olivia for winning Honorable Mention Best Master's Student Poster!

Fall 2017
The ShAPE Lab welcomes Cole Jower to the team. Dr. Shaffer co-authors a paper on albatross foraging energetics and publishes a lead-author paper on western gull foraging behavior co-authored by current student, Susan. Olivia receives a travel award to attend the Pacific Seabird Group annual meeting in February.

Spring 2017
Brad, Abram, Greg, and Dr. Shaffer present their research at the Pacific Seabird Group annual meeting held in Tacoma, WA. Greg wins Honorable Mention for Best Master's Student Presentation! Olivia is awarded the Arthur and Karin Nelson Research Fellowship and receives additional funding from the Myers Oceanographic & Marine Biology Trust for her project on tropicbirds. Lindsey and Brad have been accepted to PhD programs at UC Davis and Clemson University, respectively.

Fall 2016
New graduate student Olivia Townsend joins the ShAPE lab. Brad and Lindsey give poster presentations of their research at Beyond the Golden Gate Research Symposium in San Francisco. Greg delivers his oral seminar for his project on the incubation behavior of Forster's terns.

Spring 2016
Abram attends the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Pacific Seabird Group in lovely O’ahu. Brad gets awarded a grant from CSU-COAST for his project on rhinoceros auklets. Lindsey secures an Arthur and Karin Nelson Research Fellowship for her work on western gulls. Both Brad and Lindsey receive additional awards from the Myers Oceanographic & Marine Biology Trust in support of their respective projects.

Fall 2015
The lab welcomes new additions Abram Fleishman, Allison Harness, Bradley Wilkinson, and Lindsey Broadus to the team of graduate students. Jen presents the results of her work on juvenile northern elephant seals at the 21st Biennial Conference on Marine Mammals held in nearby San Francisco. Emma publishes her findings on artificial nest boxes and incubation behavior of Cassin’s auklets in the Journal of Wildlife Management. Dr. Shaffer co-authors several new papers on marine predators and biotelemetry.
